Hawking: Aliens may exist but contact would hurt

Aliens may exist but contact would hurt: Hawking

LONDON (AFP) – Aliens may exist but mankind should avoid contact with them as the consequences could be devastating, British scientist Stephen Hawking has warned.
"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," said the astrophysicist in a new television series, according to British media reports.
The programmes depict an imagined universe featuring alien life forms in huge spaceships on the hunt for resources after draining their own planet dry.
"Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach," warned Hawking.
The doomsday scenario is suggested in the series "Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking" on theDiscovery Channel, which began airing in the United States on Sunday.
On the probability of alien life existing, he says: "To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational.
"The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like."
Glowing squid-like creatures, herds of herbivores that can hang onto a cliff face and bright yellow predators that kill their prey with stinging tails are among the creatures that stalk the scientist's fantastical cosmos.
Mankind has already made a number of attempts to contact extraterrestrial civilisations.
In 2008, American space agency NASA beamed the Beatles song "Across the Universe" into deep space to send a message of peace to any alien that happens to be in the region of Polaris -- also known as the North Star -- in 2439.
But the history of humanity's efforts to contact aliens stretches back some years.
The US probes Pioneer 10 and 11 were launched in 1972 and 1973 bearing plaques of a naked man and woman and symbols seeking to convey the positions of the Earth and the Sun.
Voyager 1 and 2, launched in 1977, each carry a gold-plated copper phonogram disk with recordings of sounds and images on Earth.

Horst Mahler Gets 6 Years in prison

Horst Mahler Gets 6 Years
in prison
Over  Holocaust Statement
''Zionism Is Destroying Civilzation''
-------

MUNICH - German dissident Horst Mahler has been sentenced to six years in prison for "Volksverhetzung" (racial incitement). The symbolically significant number of years imposed for "anti- Semitic hate speech" stemmed from his refusal to recognize the Jewish Holocaust®, which he described as "the biggest lie in world history."

FACING LIFELONG IMPRISONMENT-Dissident Horst Mahler is seen here with his wife Sylvia Stolz, currently in prison for defending other dissidents.

The 73-year-old defendant was accused, among other things, of repeated dissemination of his views on the Internet as well as distribution of a revisionist videotape and a CD and book by Holo-skeptic Germar Rudolf, now serving time for "Holocaust® denial" in a German prison.

Immediately following sentencing, the 73-year-old dissident was arrested and led away before astonished onlookers in the courtroom, including many of his supporters.

The former attorney for the rightwing National Democratic Party (NPD) successfully represented that organization when the German regime tried to have it banned in the 1990s. He earlier received prison sentences for thought-crimes on several occasions.

'I have resolved to call a lie a lie'

In his concluding remarks before the court, Mahler noted that with another case pending against him he faces a total of over 12 years in prison - the equivalent of a life sentence, given his advanced age. He would, however, stand by his views.

In setting a personal example, Mahler declared that it was incumbent upon every German to "deal a deathblow to the Holocaust® religion as martyrs for the truth."

The dissident defendant concluded by saying:

"I have resolved to expose this Talmudic perfidy, that over and over again I will call a lie a lie and oppose it with the truth. I have sworn to my people never to give up in this fight against the Holocaust® religion."

Zimbabwe: Inflation Surges

Zimbabwe: Inflation Surges Under Threat

Date Posted: Friday 16-Apr-2010
By Chris Muronzi and Bernard Mpofu
FINANCE minister Tendai Biti yesterday painted a gloomy picture of the economic outlook in the face of rapidly rising inflation and a crippling public service wage bill, warning government might be forced to crack the whip on business barely a year after liberalisation to curb price increases.
Biti's ominous delivery on the economic situation would have caused anxiety among the business sector and ordinary members of the public who thought the economy was fast recovering while inflation was a thing of the past.
Zimbabweans are still trying to recover from the ravages of hyperinflation -- which scaled trillion-dollar levels -- hardly a year and a half ago. Hyperinflation had left many businesses in ruins and livelihoods destroyed.
Biti told journalists in Harare yesterday that although economic stability had been restored, the economy was still facing serious "downside risks" which could "reverse the gains realised" to date.
In a statement on the economic performance in 2009 and the first quarter of this year, Biti said the major threats to the economy were building inflationary pressures, lack of fiscal space, an unsustainable high wage bill or employment costs, lack of investment in power generation, water and road infrastructure rehabilitation, vulnerabilities in the financial sector and a deteriorating balance of payments situation.
In an announcement which could shock the public and arouse nightmares of the past, Biti said inflation had resurged and quickened from an annual average of -7,7% in December last year to -4,8%. Month-on-month inflation rose to 1% in February from 0,7% in January.
"The build-up in inflation is being driven by rising prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, health, education, as well as services of public utilities," Biti said. "Such a situation is threatening disinflation gains of 2009 as well as the objective of maintaining within targeted single-digit levels."
Biti said it was critical to rationalise the pricing of public services to contain inflation within single-digit margins and "avoid the economy slipping back into a high inflation environment".
If the current inflation trend continues, Biti warned, the annual inflation rate could surge to 10% against a projected 5% by year-end.
"There are strong signs that inflation is on the increase as demonstrated by the month-on-month inflation of January and February 2010," he said. "What is clear and self-evident is that speculation tendencies are back on the market and that there is a huge constituency of the business sector that is keen to draw us back to the hyper-inflationary matrix of 2008," he said. "Going backwards where there was no confidence and business people increased prices for the sake of increasing prices, we will not accept that."
Biti attacked industry for "having its own cake and eating it". He said they had benefited from economic liberalisation but were profiteering. "They (business) cannot expect us to play basic liberal economics when they themselves are not playing by the book," he said. "Business cannot have their cake and eat it. We are making a clear message that we are not accepting inflationary pressures on our economy."
But industry has justified price increases citing high public utility tariffs. Biti however says since January there has not been any public utility tariff increases.
On the wage bill, Biti proposed a freeze in civil servants' salaries, saying they were too high and unsustainable. He said the civil service wage bill accounts for 70% of the total domestic budget revenues. Government has a 236 000 staff complement, which the treasury minister said was "too high for an economy such as ours".
However, he said the figure could be reduced should an ongoing public service audit unearth ghost workers.
"Such a proportion of the budget wage bill, which is far above international thresholds would, if not corrected also crowd out necessary capital development expenditures and hence compromise economic recovery and growth prospects," Biti explained.
The minister warned that his ministry would invoke "statutory instruments" to encourage lending from the country's financial services industry. He said government was "equally concerned" with the "huge disparity" between bank deposits' and lending rates.
The minister said unattractive interest rates on deposits of less than 0, 2% and high lending rates of 25% per annum by some banks would not encourage a savings culture in the country.
"Such a situation is also unacceptable as this is counter-productive to the country's economic recovery and growth efforts...Government will in the meantime observe the behaviour of the financial institutions in adhering and complying with this request, failure of which legal instruments would be invoked through the central bank in order to correct market failure in this regard," Biti warned.
Biti said balance of payments remained in a "precarious" position burdened by a negative trade balance of US$1,6 billion. This, he said, has further compromised industry competitiveness.
A negative balance of payments position means that a country imports more than it exports.
Biti also bemoaned the absence of foreign direct investment and vote of credit saying there was need for policy clarity on indigenisation.
An empowerment law forcing foreigners to "cede" controlling stakes to indigenous Zimbabweans has spooked investors and split the unity government.
Biti said although government had hoped to have a budget deficit of US$810 million to be funded by the donor community, the treasury was "left alone" and only got a meagre US$2,9 million.
He said: "Put simply and differently, we have received only US$2,9 million from donors. This reflects what we have been saying all along that we are on our own."
Turning to external debt, he said government had adopted a "hybrid approach" that entails the use of a natural resources and the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) strategy in its bid to clear a ballooning debt owed to multilateral institutions.
Zimbabwe owes the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and African Development Bank close to US$6 billion in arrears, he revealed.

Government by Deception

S.Africa: The Coming Race War & Affirmative Action: Some Very important & far-sighted quotes from my book: Government by Deception (2001)

Date Posted: Friday 16-Apr-2010
Here are some interesting, and perhaps shocking, short excerpts from my book, Government by Deception (2001). And some of these apply not only to South Africa for which it was written, but also to the USA.
Here is a quick list I compiled.

o Regarding the communist use and abuse of Businesses:-
Microsoft South Africa was criticised for not donating enough computers to one of the projects. Many in South Africa have been fooled by this and think it is a good thing. Meanwhile, all this business activity is doing nothing but strengthening the communists. In the end, they are merely out to hurt or use business for furthering their own political agendas anyway.

o Regarding Global Warming and the enviroment - almost 10 years before people discovered it was a hoax:-
In America, much is made of the environmental damage which business does.
Indeed, I believe that junk science is used to provide false proofs of this so that businesses can be further exploited by this scam. The Ozone hole, for example, is a natural phenomenon, which is abused for junk science purposes.

o Why negotiation with a communist is a complete waste of time. Look at the time the MDC in Zimbabwe wasted, and will continue to waste and the efforts which will be wasted on Iran which is a client of Russia and China:-
To communists, talking and negotiating is just another form of warfare. General Thomas A. Lane once wrote about the futility of negotiation with communists: "We must recognise that negotiation [with the communists] is a political fraud against the American people; that only a policy of honest confrontation with the Communist powers can really serve the cause of peace." General Lane is correct. Honest confrontation may be better than a false peace wherein one ends up surrendering everything you have to them in the end anyway.

In 1919, Lenin wrote, "It is ridiculous not to know the history of war, not to know that a treaty is a means of gaining strength”. That is why all discussion and negotiation with communists is an exercise in futility.

o On the longterm fate of whites in Zimbabwe:-
I believe that the whites’ days in Zimbabwe are numbered. It is entirely possible that one day the whites there will end up fleeing the country as political refugees with only the clothes on their backs. This is what they will get for years of stoically trying to make a go of things under communist rule. In the end, they will be sacrificed on the alter of political power. They will be robbed and some will even die for their loyalty to a multi-racial Zimbabwe.

o The final confrontation with communism will eventually come. I cannot emphasise enough how important it is that people start fighting Political Correctness with all they have. They paralyse us into NOT FIGHTING BACK... and thereby we seal our fate. This is what I wrote:-
Communism is a system of nonsense and lies. It can be beaten and driven back when the lies are fully exposed. Their numeric superiority means little because their supporters are normally the dunces of society anyway. They have paralysed us into inactivity by hammering us constantly with their vicious propaganda, but the day must come when we dare to stand up and have our say.

o On the ability of whites to survive in Zimbabwe & South Africa:-
Since they have ruled for some time in Zimbabwe and South Africa, they have found (to their disgust no doubt), that whites continue to prosper even though every possible rule has been made to make life tough for them. The fact that whites are not only surviving, but are actually trying to fit in to the new multiracial society must come as a surprise and shock to them because it
means the whites are here to stay. If a handful of whites in Zimbabwe can become a problem for the government, then imagine the sort of problem, which four million whites in South Africa can yet become?

o On the day when race war finally comes to South Africa, when ANC policies fail and they start losing black support. I wrote that 10 years ago... and you can see in the last year or two how the ANC's policies are failing and blacks are getting angry, and the blacks WANT WAR to seize what we own. Back when I wrote this, that sort of talk was fantasy and people laughed at me. But you can see, the ANC is now getting to that point where it is trying to hold its act together because Blacks want the crazy thing... they want what we own... they believe this will solve their problems. Its all nonsense, but the point is THEY BELIEVE IT. Here's what I wrote almost 10 years ago:-
Let us suppose the ugly day dawns when the ANC or the SACP or both together
decide that the race war must come. They might do so when their policies fail and they are in danger of losing black support. They may feel that apportioning white possessions among the black people would be the final deliverance of the exaggerated promises of the Freedom struggle.

o On the day when the White Liberals of South Africa start turning on the ANC. I predicted this at a time when White Liberals were HATING ME and some went to shop owners asking them to remove my book from the shops. Recently, even Clem Sunter, of Anglo-American, one of the foremost Liberals of the time is now starting to praise Afrikaners. I think the Liberals are growing very tired of the ANC. Here's what I wrote when the White Liberals were still deeply in love with the ANC and when they mocked me. I wrote:-
The ANC thus finds itself in a very tricky situation. It is inheriting the most developed economy in Africa but this economy is controlled by people who can turn on it. Even the liberals might one day become disenchanted with the ANC. In fact, herein lies a parallel to Zimbabwe. The whites who remained were the most liberal. They were keen to fit in with Mugabe but even so they eventually worked against him (Mugabe). If it could happen in Zimbabwe, it could, theoretically happen in South Africa too."

o On the tenacity of the communists. The fail, but they try again. Zuma and Malema planned a war for 2010. They failed - for now. They will be back with a new plan - of that you can rest assured:-
It is absolutely crucial for people to understand this lop-sided contest between two completely different forces and to understand that the communists have a tremendous amount of tenacity. If one plan fails they try another. They keep on hammering away with one strategic plan after another until eventually they manage to win. They do not win with ease. They never have. But they had the tenacity to attack the same white colonies decade after decade until they won. For them to struggle on for twenty or thirty years without respite is not
a problem. If they cannot win outright, then they can at least wear the opposition down and break them in that way.

o This is most important. I discuss MODERN COMMUNISM, and I discuss how communists co-habit with Business and then load businesses down with lots of legislation which really weighs them down. If you will dig deeper into the Financial Meltdown of 2008, as Joseph Smith pointed out, and others have written: Affirmative Action programs in the housing market is what broke the market. Think about that. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION BROKE THE WORLD'S STRONGEST ECONOMY. I'm reading the book, "MELTDOWN". The foreward is by congressman Ron Paul. The economist who wrote the book discusses how Affirmative Action in America is one of the primary reasons the housing market broke. It started with laws enacted by Jimmy Carter, which were revived and given teeth by Bill Clinton. Eventually the weight of these laws broke a market. I wrote about communism and its "partnership" with business. I describe what the communists are really up to Obama is also in with business - but rest assured, his aim is to destroy it. When a New Communist is in partnership with business, its just a more subtle way of killing it. Unlike the Bolsheviks, he does not shoot the owner out in the open. Instead, he destroys the business in more subtle ways. You can see that what I'm describing below is almost prophetic regarding the 2008 financial collapse:-
Modern Communists still preach class warfare. They still preach the utopian lies and are content to hide behind lies when it suits them. However, rather than just nationalising industries outright, they move into “partnership” with business while preparing to not only purge it but also to take it over. At the same time they put chains on business and begin the process of holding it captive while whipping it and forcing it to do that which the communists promised.

Is this a good system? For the New Communists, it is a brilliant scam. For business and the country it is not good. They pile all this “social responsibility” on to businesses and eventually drive many into bankruptcy or out of the country. Eventually the huge weight of “social responsibility” will take a tremendous toll on business.

o South Africa nearly became the 2nd communist state in the world after Russia in 1917. In 1922, White communists used the power of speech to incite rebellion and revolution and to create anarchy. It caused a small war in Johannesburg - complete with the South African airforce bombing Johannesburg and gun-battles raging in the streets - hundreds died. It was started through inciteful speeches, just the same as Julius Malema is doing in 2010. In 1922, Communists tried to use White people to seize power in South Africa. They nearly succeeded - the communist party was only 6 months old and it almost took control of South Africa. After the failed 1922 uprising of Whites, Lenin gave the order that in the future, communism in South Africa was to be carried out in the name of the blacks, and all white communists must support black causes. I wrote:-
In January 1922, 22,000 white mineworkers went on strike. The communists
did their utmost to turn the strike into a national uprising. Percy Fisher, a white communist, went around trying to whip whites into a frenzy of violence. He said things like “Who heard of a fight without violence?” and “The issue has got to be won by force and violence.” Eventually the speeches of Fisher and Andrews had the desired effect and violence broke out. Mobs and gangs roamed the streets. There was anarchy everywhere. General Smuts then sent in thousands of troops assisted by aircraft and artillery to smash the rebellion.

o On black relations with the Russians in Africa. I quoted from David Lamb’s excellent book, The Africans:-
Almost every African country that formed an intimate relationship with
Moscow … eventually discovered they were on the wrong end of an unbalanced deal”

o On the possibility that after a vicious race war, the Whites might retain a portion of the country which they could run as their own and the consequences this would hold for the ANC:-
What then? Once such a small (white) state takes hold it might not only survive but it might prosper and eventually even expand its territory. I say this because the ANC will have lost their “milk cows” that supply most of their taxes! They might have taken the whites’ property but they would have lost their skills. With the ANC having lost its main source of income it would then have to attempt to run the country using its flawed socialist ideas, which of course won’t work.

I must add in a piece from: THE MAGIC ROOM in Government by Deception. At the time I wrote Government by Deception (2001), the MDC still firmly believed that Democracy was real in Zimbabwe. This was of course a lie. Nowadays, in 2010, we can all see what a lie it really is. Even when Mugabe is voted out in a way that everyone can see he was voted out, you see he is still in power. Even in the Government of National Unity, he still retains most of the power. And here is the "democratic ANC" which also keeps him in power illegally and openly in full view of the world. In South Africa, people have yet to realise that democracy here is just as much a farce as it is in Zimbabwe and that you can't vote them out. So here is a revisit to the past with: THE MAGIC ROOM that we live in.

[The Magic Room is a most important concept in my book. In many ways, we live in a Magic Room... and in order to survive we must make an important effort to get out. Political Correctness, for example, is a part of the game in the Magic Room. Here is how I described it in an article some years ago. Jan]

Blast from the past:-

SA: Reader: The Magic Room in Government by Deception

Very shortly, Government By Deception will be coming out as an eBook - in the next week or so. I know many foreign readers have been clamouring for it. Its about time I did something. So I've finally knuckled down and done it, because I feel many foreign and expat readers would be interested in it.

I am also reinstating things I had to take out for publication in S.Africa as requested by Exclusive Books. Since I no longer care whether Exclusive Books (or any other book store in South Africa) ever actually sells my book, I will return to doing things the way I wanted to originally - and I will sell the book myself via my website! Similarly, I stopped giving a damn a long time ago about the Mass Media's opinion of the book when The Star newspaper did not want to do a book review. I now have my own book reviews and I simply don't care what the newspapers or radio stations or anyone else for that matter thinks about the book.

All I care about is that it spreads and reaches the public.

I gave a free copy to the US Govt and the US Military Attache to S.Africa tried to keep from laughing outright in my face - and - do I give a damn? Actually... NOT!! Since nobody of note ever supported me, and I've survived by myself, I owe them nothing, and I will continue forward without giving a darn about what they think about it. I think I've not done half bad. I think my book has been more prophetic than anything written by the "experts" and the "intellectuals". The Tony Leons and the Clem Sunters (of Anglo-American) are, in my opinion, much further off the mark than I ever was. How close has Clem Sunter's predictions been to the reality? Yet, the Mass Media couldn't stop mentioning his name.

So, in the eBook which is coming out shortly:-
1. I am reinstating the Nelson Mandela cover (which freaked out Exclusive books!).

2. I am reinstating the DEDICATION - which also flipped people out. Government by Deception was originally dedicated to anyone who fought communism, in thought, word and deed! In essence I was referring ESPECIALLY to people who were soldiers! (You can imagine how the ANC must blow a gasket over that one! - as if I care!)

A recent reader of Government by Deception in S.Africa particularly enjoyed my last chapter which deals with "The Magic Room".

He wrote:-
I have read the book Government by deception. Very interesting stuff. The final chapter that deals with the "Magic Room" should be put up on your site as an article, where you should expand on the parallel you draw between society and the Magic room...

I think that if you provide evidence of the Magic Room as well, it might
open a few eyes.

When I ended Government by Deception, I drew heavily on a book written more than 50 years ago, called, "The Brainwashing Machine". That book was about an anti-communist who was caught by the communists in Europe. The book is quite tragic too because the communists sent a woman to spy on him. She then fell in love with him for real. He and she worked together to fabricate her reports to the intelligence services. But eventually the commies caught them out. In the end they executed her for this. That part of the story just kills me, that this woman did her best to protect him and in the end the communists killed her for it. So tragic.

Anyhow, he was dragged off to a place where a communist psychologist went to work on him to mess with his mind big time. Remember, even in those days, the communists worked on people's minds and eventually, anti-communists would come out and in public or in a trial, incriminate themselves and confess to their "crimes" - just like Vlok did the other day! That comes from all these mind-games. The communists work hard on you to convince you that you're a criminal - among other things. Does that sound familiar? All Whites in this country feel like CRIMINALS - not so?

At first Lajos went to jail. But then, they put Lajos in a room of his own - The Magic Room. But in this Magic Room, they had one-way mirrors where they could watch him through and they had hidden projectors. The Magic Room was designed to look cosy - and the psychologist would visit him and talk to him nicely. They would also drug him from time to time. But the whole purpose of the game was to mess with his mind and to MAKE HIM DOUBT HIS OWN LOGIC AND HIS OWN SANITY! They would drug him and play tricks on him and try to mess with his head to make him think that he was insane when in fact he was not.

They would drug him and show him movies and then, through elaborate trickery, try to make him believe that he had been in those movies and that the movies he'd been shown were in fact REAL!

For a long time they fooled him and he began to doubt his own mind more and more. He was progressively becoming insane. The only man he trusted, this psychologist, who was so nice to him, was in fact destroying him!! Until one day, in his impending madness he clicked on how to escape!! I'm not going to tell you what the answer is!! But the answer is quite wild and radical!

Anyhow... This psychologist who was so friendly to him, was in fact his deadliest enemy. He was learning things about him in order to try and make him mad - or in order to make him think he was mad.

Once you have been in The Magic Room for long enough (a few months) you end up in a lunatic asylum. Lajos was the only person to ever escape from The Magic Room and to be normal once more!

In South Africa (and Zimbabwe too), we are like that man in The Magic Room. We see things, but then we are made to doubt our own logic. From time to time, we see the Deception of the ANC, and then when we try to confirm it, we are told we are wrong - or something is presented to us to make us believe we are wrong.

One of the best examples is CRIME! We know there is crime. We know it is bad. We experience it as do members of our family - but then the Govt comes, and with elaborate means, they try to lie to us and deceive us into thinking that our perceptions are wrong.

They do this a lot with almost everything. But sometimes they go to extreme lengths to deceive us with all sorts of lies ranging from the unsophisticated to the sophisticated.

All the time, we see things, but they deny it all. They are like that psychologist in the Magic Room, trying to constantly make us doubt our own minds. When we complain... they tell us that we White people are racist and we complain too much.

The key lies in realising that we are NOT MAD at all. We're not mad. They're just trying to get us to believe we are.

And like Lajos, we too can escape. This website is Phase 1 of how you can escape from them, and their hold over your mind.

Remember, these people are garbage... and the only thing they have going for them are: LIES & TRICKS! If you can see through their lies and their tricks, then you will see that there is little to fear from them, and that in fact, we should make it our aim to DESTROY THEM.

Their hold over the Blacks is also mental. They control their minds already. The Blacks too need to be freed from their lies and their trickery.

If you will look at Zimbabwe. The MDC are people who were made quite mad by Mugabe's Mind Control. The MDC believe, to this day, that Zimbabwe is a Democratic state. That's complete rubbish. In the Magic Room of Zimbabwe, Democracy and "the people's power" was nothing more than an illusion for 27 years! The same is true in South Africa. "Democracy" does not exist. Nobody will vote the ANC out of power - not even the Blacks. But in our "Magic Room", 99% of the people believe this is a democratic state. We are told we're "democratic" now, but in reality, we probably had more democracy under Apartheid (even though the Blacks did not vote), than we have now.

We're all living in The Magic Room... and nothing here really is the way we've been told it is. If you truly believe everything you've been told, by our "psychologists", then indeed, you truly are MAD!

I will mull over the ideas presented by the Reader with regards to The Magic Room.

I am seriously thinking of writing Government by Deception II, starting exactly 10 years after I started the first, and then making it an eBook (to save on the tremendous costs of printing). But then I would like to revisit things I wrote about and what has happened as well as where I think the next 10 years will take us. Jan.

Failed harvest deepens Zimbabwe food crisis

Failed harvest deepens Zimbabwe food crisis
Last Updated: Thursday, March 11, 2010 |

More than two million people in Zimbabwe, or close to one-fifth of the southern African country's population, are in need of food aid, the Red Cross said Thursday.
The International Red Cross renewed its call for support for the region in a statement, saying an estimated 2.17 million people are in need of food aid, a number it says will rise on the back of an expected failed 2010 harvest.
"In some parts of the country, the food situation is as bad as many of our volunteers and staff have ever seen it," said Emma Kundishora, secretary general of the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, in a statement.
The agency said some areas have seen drought while others have been inundated with too much rain, damaging staple crops like corn. The country, once the breadbasket of Africa, has also been facing shortages of fertilizer and seed.
Farmers' organizations in the region forecast local corn harvests this year of some 435,000 tonnes, with annual consumption at about 1.6 million tonnes.
Aid effort faces $25M shortfall
In December 2009 the Red Cross appealed for 38.4 million Swiss francs ($36.8 million Cdn) in funds to continue an emergency food operation begun in 2008 to support more than 200,000 particularly vulnerable people in the region.
The group said Thursday its plans to continue the relief effort through this October but faces a shortfall of 26 million Swiss francs ($24.9 million Cdn).
Critics of longtime ruler President Robert Mugabe have blamed the food shortages on measures he introduced in 2000, when thousands of white-owned farms were handed over to landless blacks, seizures Mugabe argued were necessary to resettle blacks kicked off their land during British colonization.
Critics said the policy left much of the best farmland unused, as resettled farmers did not have the proper equipment, supplies and seed to keep production at previous levels.
Mugabe has blamed his country's plight on sanctions placed against his government, though Western countries say those sanctions target only Mugabe and his top aides

I recall the vilification of white Rhodesians by Canadians in the late 70's. I saw and heard first hand how Canadians poured hate onto them.
I recall embargoes and political meddling by the Canadian government because they apparently knew what was best for Africans and how to achieve it. How imperialist was that attitude............
I recall the national joy as Canadian news media trumpeted and hailed Mugabe's coming to power. Bastard ignorant white folk etc , finally the country will be run the way the majority wants etc etc etc

So much meddling, acrimony and hate. AND NOW with the country in a state of total ruination where are all these pulpit-thumpers who forced this change at gun point, why does the world basically stand by and watch as self rule destroys freedom and democracy and health and the economy in a way that is unprecedented in modern times.

Colonial rule was not right but political correctness , at least in this case, has proven to be much more destructive to everyone except Mr. Mugabe and his chosen few.

A person with reasonable intelligence and insight knew successful, sustainable change couldn't happen so abruptly and completely. That didn't matter at the time ,at the time it was more important for US that WE impose OUR will in a land thousands of miles away, in a culture we knew nothing of.

NOW THAT'S COLONIAL IMPERIALISM.

Have been looking at some stats on Zimbabwe since Mugabe's rule, Inflation peaked in 2008 at 89.7 sextillion (10^21) percent. 1 US Dollars was worth 1.56 Zimbabwe Dollars in 1990. In 2006 Mugabe ordered 60 TRILLION dollars to be printed at its central, in order to pay for government wage increases. Exchange rate is now at 310 Billion Zimbabwe Dollars for $1 US.

Way to go Mugabe, don't worry your life is lookin' pretty good considering you purchased a penthouse in Hong Kong for $5.8 Million US.

The real reason is not Mugabe, but those who allowed Zimbabwean revolution, those who allowed ZANU and Mugabe to come to power. These are lefties around the world, who applied pressure on British governments of Wilson and Thatcher. This is also Lord Soames personally - a spineless coward who did not have courage to denounce Mugabe elections results because, although they were not fair, their denouncement, as he said, would provoke "violence". This slug was married to Churchill's daughter, by the way. Churchill probably turned in his grave.

Stop blaming Mugabe alone. Zimbabwe is a product of rejecting [by the West] of the common sense in favour of political correctness. Now we are all asked to pitch in to alleviate some pain from past mistakes without accepting that they WERE mistakes repeating them in South Africa.

Once it was a beautiful Rhodesia with flourishing agriculture and industry. Rhodesian government stated that eventually blacks and whites will rule together, but currently "black majority is not ready to rule". Weren't they right? It was very true, but it didn't fit egalitarian principles embraced by the West so tightly, that it was impossible to accept that this principle can not be universally applied. For its "racist" practices Rhodesia was shunned by UN, placed under economic sanctions and finally succumbed to economic pressures and military attacks of Mugabe's guerrillas backed by Soviet Union and communist China.

So the common sense was defeated and political correctness won. Educated and hard working Rhodesians both white AND black left the country. The industry was affected first, however in 2000 oppressions on the white farmers started and this last pillar of the economy also crashed. Rhodesia's infrastructure: water supplies and sewage treatment systems stopped functioning due to wear, tear and lack of repair. Hence, cholera.

The failures of "liberated" African countries proves that "equal representation" democracy does not work in Africa: Congo, Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia, Angola, Rwanda, Zimbabwe. South Africa is well on the track. But the West keeps sacrificing common sense in favour of political correctness. Until that is fixed, Africa will continue its plight and aid humanitarian aid will only give a temporary relief, without changing overall pattern.

"The country, once the breadbasket of Africa ..."

The country was called Rhodesia back then. It produced regular food surpluses and cheap food for everyone in the country despite sanctions and the ultimately successful effort of the west to put Mugabe in power.

The international community created this mess, so it's only fair that it should help to feed the people who are starving as a result of this well-intentioned bungling.

READERS COMMENTS

As long as Mugabe holds power there will be problems. No he does not control the weather but good farmers know what needs to be done. You drive them away and give the land to non-farmers and you get what you sow.
People have tried to vote Mugabe out of power and look what happens. A once profitable economy goes down the tubes with the help of all the western do-gooders who backed Mugabe against the "evil empire" of Ian Smith.
The western solution seems to be throw money at the problem. I wonder what Robert's bank account looks like in Switzerland. Whites built the country. Do-gooders in the west helped bring it down. The solution it would seem is to find a man the people can trust and who really cares about his country and his people then topple Mugabe. Bang!

READERS COMMENTS

Let them starve. They are stealing everything white people worked hard to create, and forcing them to leave the country. They got what they want, so let them live with the consequences. If they can't, then let them change it themselves. It is their problem, and any aid given them will be squandered just like the riches stolen from from the whites.

Get ready for decades of Icelandic fireworks

Get ready for decades of Icelandic fireworks
We're not quite back to the pre-plane era, but air travel over and around the north Atlantic might get a lot more disrupted in the coming years.
Volcanologists say the fireworks exploding from the Eyjafjallajökull volcano on Iceland, which is responsible for the ash cloud that is grounding all commercial flights across northern Europe, may become a familiar sight. Increased rumblings under Iceland over the past decade suggest that the area is entering a more active phase, with more eruptions and the potential for some very large bangs.
"Volcanic activity on Iceland appears to follow a periodicity of around 50 to 80 years. The increase in activity over the past 10 years suggests we might be entering a more active phase with more eruptions," says Thorvaldur Thordarson, an expert on Icelandic volcanoes at the University of Edinburgh, UK. By contrast, the latter half of the 20th century was unusually quiet.
Along with increased volcanism, more seismic activity has been recorded around Iceland, including the magnitude-6.1 quake that rocked Reykjavik in May 2008.
Rifting strain
In 1998 Gudrún Larsen from the University of Iceland in Reykjavik and colleagues used 800 years' worth of data from lava layers, ice cores and historical records to show that Iceland's volcanism goes through cycles of high and low activity. The peaks of these cycles seem to be strongly linked to bursts of earthquakes, which release the build-up of strain on tectonic faults near Iceland caused by the rifting of the Atlantic Ocean.
In addition, the periodicity may be linked to pulses of magma coming from the mantle and pressure fluctuations at the surface caused by glaciers melting and geothermal activity.
Larsen and colleagues showed that the Vatnajökull ice cap region – which includes the highly active Grímsvötn and Bárdarbunga volcanoes – experienced between 6 and 11 eruptions every 40 years during phases of high activity, compared with no more than three eruptions per 40 years during low-activity phases. Other regions of Iceland appear to follow a similar pattern to Vatnajökull.
As well as becoming more frequent, eruptions seem to get more intense during the high-activity phases. A number of Iceland's most devastating eruptions – including that of the volcano Laki in 1783 that killed over half of Iceland's livestock and led to a famine that wiped out about a quarter of the human population – have occurred when the Atlantic rift system has been active. "If we are entering a more active phase, these bigger eruptions will become more likely," says Thordarson.
Judging by recent volcanic and earthquake activity, Thordarson and his colleagues believe that Iceland is entering its next active phase and estimate it will last for 60 years or so, peaking between 2030 and 2040.

Lonely stars born on a bridge between galaxies

Lonely stars born on a bridge between galaxies

The Large Magellanic Cloud (pictured) likely stripped gas from its smaller neighbour, forming a bridge between them (Image: C. Smith/S. Points/MCELS Team/NOAO/AURA/NSF)

MOST stars are gregarious, grouping together by the billions in galaxies like our Milky Way. Now evidence is mounting that stars may form in between galaxies.
Vanessa McBride at the University of Southampton in the UK and her colleagues looked at X-rays arriving from the space between two nearby galaxies, the Large and Small Magellanic clouds. The energy spectrum and periodic fluctuations of the X-rays, recorded by the INTEGRAL satellite, suggest they are coming from young binary star systems in which a neutron star is stealing matter from its massive companion.
One such system was already known in a stream of gas called the Magellanic Bridge between the two galaxies. McBride identified two more and found tentative signs of three others (Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, vol 403, p 709). The gas was probably stripped from the Small Magellanic Cloud by its larger neighbour's gravity, providing fuel for star formation.
The Magellanic Bridge is ideal for studying such violent interactions in detail because it is so near, says Nicolas Lehner of the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

Mysterious radio waves emitted from nearby galaxy

Mysterious radio waves emitted from nearby galaxy

Something in there is producing an unusually regular radio signal (Image: NASA/ESA/STScI/AURA)
There is something strange in the cosmic neighbourhood. An unknown object in the nearby galaxy M82 has started sending out radio waves, and the emission does not look like anything seen anywhere in the universe before.
"We don't know what it is," says co-discoverer Tom Muxlow of Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics near Macclesfield, UK.
The thing appeared in May last year, while Muxlow and his colleagues were monitoring an unrelated stellar explosion in M82 using the MERLIN network of radio telescopes in the UK. A bright spot of radio emission emerged over only a few days, quite rapidly in astronomical terms. Since then it has done very little except baffle astrophysicists.
It certainly does not fit the pattern of radio emissions from supernovae: they usually get brighter over a few weeks and then fade away over months, with the spectrum of the radiation changing all the while. The new source has hardly changed in brightness over the course of a year, and its spectrum is steady.
Warp speed
Yet it does seem to be moving – and fast: its apparent sideways velocity is four times the speed of light. Such apparent "superluminal" motion has been seen before in high-speed jets of material squirted out by some black holes. The stuff in these jets is moving towards us at a slight angle and travelling at a fair fraction of the speed of light, and the effects of relativity produce a kind of optical illusion that makes the motion appear superluminal.
Could the object be a black hole? It is not quite in the middle of M82, where astronomers would expect to find the kind of supermassive central black hole that most other galaxies have. Which leaves the possibility that it could be a smaller-scale "microquasar".
A microquasar is formed after a very massive star explodes, leaving behind a black hole around 10 to 20 times the mass of the sun, which then starts feeding on gas from a surviving companion star. Microquasars do emit radio waves – but none seen in our galaxy is as bright as the new source in M82. Microquasars also produce plenty of X-rays, whereas no X-rays have been seen from the mystery object. "So that's not right either", Muxlow told New Scientist.
His best guess is still that the radio source is some kind of dense object accreting surrounding material, perhaps a large black hole or a black hole in an unusual environment. Perhaps the phenomenon also happens occasionally in our galaxy, but is more common in M82 because it is a "starburst" galaxy – a cosmic cauldron where massive stars are forming and exploding at a much higher rate than in the Milky Way, creating a lot of new black holes.
Muxlow will report the discovery at the Royal Astronomical Society National Astronomy Meeting in Glasgow, UK, today.

Do Dartmoor's ancient stones have link to Stonehenge?

Do Dartmoor's ancient stones have link to Stonehenge?

The Cut Hill stones were placed around the same time as Stonehenge (Image: Tom Greeves)

LITTERED across the hills of Dartmoor in Devon, southern England, around 80 rows and circles of stones stand sentinel in the wild landscape. Now, striking similarities between one of these monuments and Stonehenge, 180 kilometres to the east, suggest they may be the work of the same people.
The row of nine stones on Cut Hill was discovered in 2004 on one of the highest, most remote hills of Dartmoor national park. "It is on easily the most spectacular hill on north Dartmoor," says Andrew Fleming, president of the Devon Archaeological Society. "If you were looking for a distant shrine in the centre of the north moor, that's where you would put it."
Ralph Fyfe of the University of Plymouth and independent archaeologist Tom Greeves have now carbon-dated the peat surrounding the stones. This suggests that at least one of the stones had fallen - or been placed flat on the ground - by between 3600 and 3440 BC, and another by 3350 to 3100 BC (Antiquity, vol 84, p 55).
That comes as a surprise to archaeologists, who, on the strength of artefacts found nearby, had assumed that Dartmoor monuments like Cut Hill and Stall Moor (pictured) dated from the Bronze Age, around 2100 to 1600 BC. Instead, Fyfe suggests that Cut Hill is from the Neolithic period, the same period that Stonehenge was built.
Unlike Stonehenge, the 2-metre-tall Cut Hill stones lie flat on the ground, parallel to each other and between 19 metres and 34.5 metres apart, like the sleepers of a giant railway track. Packing stones discovered at the end of one of the megaliths suggest at least one of them stood erect at some point, but the regularity of their current layout makes it likely they were deliberately placed that way, Greeves says.
What's more, the stones' alignment with the summer and winter solstices seems identical to that of Stonehenge, Newgrange in Ireland and Maes Howe in Scotland. "It could be coincidence, but it's striking," says archaeologist Mike Pitts.

Cut Hill

Cut Hill is either a place you love or detest, it is one Dartmoor's remoter spots and is the fourth highest of Dartmoor's hills. At first glance it consists of nothing but peat hags, boggy pools, tussocks and other such messy things. To reach it will involve a good walk and if wet, a thorough soaking. The 3D map below shows the remoteness and terrain of Cut Hill.

Without doubt it can be described as the Mecca of Letterboxing with literally hundreds of boxes hidden all over it. The Cut Hill aficionados have their own names for various rocks and features which unless you know where they are will literally leave you clueless. Amongst them are; Jude's Table, Terry's Stone, The Rain Gauge, The Guide Stone, The Blocks, The Jew Stone, The Pipe, The Outcrop, The Strewn Timbers, The East Crosses, The West Crosses and at one time there was the rotting corpse of a pony that had boxes placed off it. Not long ago certain letterboxers would literally spend all weekend on Cut Hill searching for boxes. The competition as to who had the most Cut Hill stamps was ferocious and some of the clues nearly impossible to get. There was a special badge awarded to anyone who collected over 100 Cut Hill letterbox stamps which at one time was not difficult. At this time, literally anything that happened on the hill would soon have a stamp sited deep in some peat bank. Maps were drawn of the hill showing all the various names of the features, in fact one boxer drew out the bounds of the hill which consisted of numerous markers. Secret inscriptions would be made on rocks and then boxes sited which alluded to them, again if you did not know where they were you had no chance of finding the boxes. Today the Cut Hill craze has somewhat abated but it still very popular with boxers. Below are just a few examples of some Cut Hill letterbox stamps many of which are excellentrubber cuts.

I have not visited the hill that much but there must be over 100 stamps in my collection, personally speaking I used to find Cut Hill one of the most boring places on the moor. However if the letterboxing aspect of the hill is ignored there are some supposed Bronze Age features to be found along with a nice peat pass or two, a mysterious stone and at one time a glaring mistake by the Ordnance Survey. The map below shows some of the more commoner names and places of Cut Hill, many more remain a 'top secret'. According to Gover et al, 1992, p.193 Cut Hill takes it's name from the nearby 'Cut Lane' as do many of the surrounding geographical features.

Look on any 1:25,000 OS map of Dartmoor (including the latest 2005 issue) and at Grid Reference SX 60850 82521 you will see, clearly labelled, "Cut Hill Stream". Hemery, 1983, p.477, states: "OS, on their 1:25,000 map have in error given this name to the stream now described; it belongs to the neighbouring tributary, unnamed on the maps which is Cut Hill Stream." That statement was published in 1983 and 22 years later the mistake has not been corrected as can be seen below:

Just to confuse things even more, if one wished to be truly pedantic then the correct 'Cut Hill Stream' should in fact be called 'Hangman's Stream' as this is what it was known as by the old moormen.
With regard to the mysterious stone, this is what is known as the 'Jew Stone' because on it is inscribed the letters J E W. Nobody seems to know what the inscription stands for but what has been realised is that it is possibly carved onto a fallen stone from a Bronze Age row.

The Jew Stone -
(my thanks to Sam & Rose Mulligan for the photo.)

It was rumoured that at one time there was also an old wooden OS trig point on Cut Hill, this was removed long ago and never replaced. It is marked on the old 1889 OS map as can be seen below so there may possibly some credence in this fact.

In 2004, Dr, T, Greeves discovered that there are possible unrecorded prehistoric features on Cut Hill in so much that there is a barrow, cairn and a stone row comprising of 6 fallen stones. The row is aligned roughly NE/SW (52º/232º) and is situated on the top of the hill at grid reference SX 59928275. Five of the stones are visible along a 100m strip of ground where the peat has been eroded, they are spaced uniformly between 19m and 29.5m apart as can be seen from the plan below.

Adapted from T. A. Greeves' original plan
The Prehistoric Society, July 2004

bullet
Stone number 1 measures 2.3 x 0.9m
bullet
Stone number 2 measures 2.4 x 0.8m
bullet
Stone number 3 measures 1.85 x 0.7m and is the 'Jew Stone'.
bullet
Stone number 4 measures 1.9 x 1.2m
bullet
Stone Number 5 measures 2.6 x 0.7m
bullet
Stone number 6 measures 2.1 x 1.05m

It appears that each of the stones had been deliberately selected for the purpose of giving the row the appearance of a thin, 0.20m line of uprights when viewed along the axis of the row but a much wider row when viewed from either side of the axis. The actual length of the row is 123m but there is another possible slab that may also have been part of the line, this would extend the row to 157.5m. The alignment of the row runs to within approximately 22m of the barrow's centre and stone number one lies 58m WSW away. The barrow is 14m in diameter and approximately 1.5m high and consists of a superficially almost stone-free mound. Past the mound there are suggestions of a 1.5m wide berm or flat space which separates the barrow from the surrounding ditch which is 2m wide and defined by an 2m outer ring bank.

Greeves suggests that of the 80 odd recorded stone rows on Dartmoor this particular feature shows several anomalies in so much as:

bullet
The altitude of the stone row is approximately 100m higher than any previously recorded row on Dartmoor.
bullet
The stone slabs are some of the largest used in a Dartmoor stone row with only Staldon and Piles Hill rows showing anything like the size.
bullet
"Of special interest are the messages potentially contained in the peat associated with the row. It is usually suggested that blanket peat began forming at 600m on Dartmoor in the 4th millennium BC (e.g. Caseldine & Maguire 1981, 8). Could the row be as early as this, or are we to assume that the peat formed later?" This theory is based on the argument used by Greeves that: "the peat has eroded by either natural or human agency, and appears to be on a prehistoric land surface about 1.4m lower than the present top surface of the peat."

This idea would mean that the stone row was erected during the Early Neolithic period. Whilst nobody would dismiss the idea of a 'previously un-recorded' stone row the dating and context is very questionable:

"Stone rows and stone alignments began to be built from the early second millennium..," Darvill, 1996, p.94.

By the end of the Bronze Age deterioration of the soil and pasture forced people from their homes, but the five or six centuries before this had produced not only a pastoral population in the south-west of Dartmoor but also a form of monument that cannot perfectly be matched elsewhere in the British Isles, the well-known stone rows...," Burl, 1981 p.110.

"Environmental evidence suggests that Dartmoor was used on an increasing scale from the mid third millennium BC, and this is consistent with the dating evidence provided by burials from the area. At first it may have been visited seasonally by communities from the surrounding lowlands and it was not until about 1700BC that the land was sub-divided by the reaves. In between, the archaeological evidence is dominated by specialised forms of monument: burial cairns, cists, stone rows...," Bradley, 2002, p.74.

"By about 2500BC, after perhaps a thousand years of small-scale hunting and grazing in the uplands, pressure on this land seems to have intensified. At this time (though the dating evidence is very thin, and the chronology depends partly on the comparisons made with the archaeological sequence in other parts of southern England) over seventy stone rows were built...," Fleming, 1988, p.95.

"Neolithic (c.4500 - 2300BC)... Other types of monuments, some of which may have been built towards the end of this period, are the stone rows...," Gerrard, 1997, p.33.

"Many megalithic rows and menhirs and the stone circles to which they often attach may well date from the end of the second millennium BC (of Beaker and early Bronze Age date)." Malone, 2001, p.188.

Greeves also postulates that the stones were especially selected for their purpose but to confirm this one needs to know what that purpose was. Because every stone row may have had a differing a purpose which required varying shapes and sizes of stone. With regards to the cairn, Greeves states: "The small cairn shown on the plan may be modern."
You certainly meet some strange people around Cut Hill like an oriental gentleman wearing jeans and a t-shirt kitted out with a Tesco's carrier bag in a snowstorm. On another occasion whilst mooching about Cut Lane Stream, which incidentally was about 3 inches deep at the time, I met an fully equipped angler fishing for trout. On several occasions there have been encounters with people asking if they were anywhere near Cranmere Pool because their map shows they should be there, well not bad navigation, only about 2 miles out! In 1984 a grass fire caused by a camping stove caught hold and took out a lot of hill killing many ground nesting birds and melting a multitude of letterbox stamps.

Benazir Bhutto 'left to mercy of assassins by security chief'

Benazir Bhutto 'left to mercy of assassins by security chief'
Published on 04-16-2010

Source: Telegraph
The former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was left to the mercy of her assassins by her security chief who abandoned her in the minutes before her death, a key witness has told the United Nations inquiry into her death.
Chaudhry Mohummad Aslam, one of Ms Bhutto's protocol officers who was guarding her vehicle when she was shot, said that Pakistan's interior minister Rehman Malik and current law minister Babar Awan were to blame for security lapses which allowed her killers to strike.
Ms Bhutto was killed on December 27, 2007 as she left an election campaign rally in Rawalpindi's Liaqat Bagh. She was standing through the sunroof of her Pajero jeep waving to supporters as she left the venue when she was shot through the head by a marksman. She slumped down into the car and died in the arms of her political secretary Naheed Khan. An explosion which followed the gunfire left more than 20 people dead.
Her death convulsed Pakistan and provoked a series of claims that establishment figures, including then president General Musharraf, one of his intelligence chiefs and Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi were part of a conspiracy to kill her. All have denied the claims.
But according to Mr Aslam, who was himself wounded in the bomb blast, Ms Bhutto's killers were able to get close to her because of the sudden departure of Mr Malik and Mr Awan in a private Mercedes reserved as an alternative car for Ms Bhutto.
The United Nations was on Thursday night due to release a report into the circumstances surrounding Ms Bhutto's assassination and sources close to the investigation have said it is expected to highlight a series of security failings.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph, Mr Aslam said there was a car was in front of Ms Bhutto's Pajero as she prepared to leave, and that the two ministers commandeered it in breach of protocol rules and ordered the driver to speed to the home of her husband Asif Zardari, now the country's president.
When the police and private security teams saw the car speed away, they followed quickly behind, he said, leaving Ms Bhutto with no security protection.
"Rehman Malik and Babar Awan forced the driver of the Mercedes to leave immediately. When the [motorbike] pilot saw the car was going at full speed, he drove his bike to lead them. The police security squad and private security also followed them. When the Mitsubishi Pajero in which Benazir Bhutto was sitting came out of the gate there was no police, no private security, nothing was there the security thought she was in the Mercedes," he said.
Mr Aslam said he saw laser beams flash past his party leader's car and that she slumped down inside the car as the sound of bullets flew around. An explosion followed the shots, leaving 35 people dead, he said.
He had been just in front of Ms Bhutto's car when a bomb exploded a few metres away. He was seen in television footage at the time sitting bewildered among dead colleagues and stray shoes with an open leg wound.
Fauzia Wahab, the Pakistan Peoples Party's information secretary and a close aide of President Asif Zardari, confirmed that Mr Malik and Mr Awan had left Ms Bhutto behind in Liaqat Bagh. "Once she [Ms Bhutto] was down [from the stage], they grabbed the car and rushed to Mr Zardari's house to welcome her," she said.
She said on the night before the rally, Ms Bhutto had been visited at her residence by the head of the ISI intelligence agency to warn her there was a threat to her life and that she should cancel the meeting in Liaqat Bagh. It is not clear whether Mr Malik, as her head of security, was aware of the threat when he left Ms Bhutto's convoy.
